• 1 tbsp. butter
• 1 tbsp. olive oil
• 2 tbsps. minced garlic
• 2 tbsps. minced shallots
• 1 tbsp. capers
• 3 cups canned tomato sauce
• 1 tbsp. Italian seasoning
• 1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes
• 1 lb. mussels, cleaned and debearded
• 1 cup chopped green onions
• In a skillet, melt butter on medium heat and swirl in olive oil, then cook
capers, shallots, and garlic for 5 minutes until the shallots turn translucent.
Mix in red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning, and tomato sauce, stirring well to
combine. Cover and turn heat down to medium-low, then simmer for 10
• Add in the mussels and tightly cover the pan. Increase heat to medium high
and cook for 10 minutes until the mussels are all open, discarding the ones
that didn’t. Take off from heat and use chopped green onions as a garnish,
then serve.
